Class suggestion - Huppermage
Par Granthese#6501 27 Janvier 2023 - 22:32:26While discussing classes in the Discord server we brainstormed some ideas for classes, and one I would love to see in Waven are the Huppermages. Since they are scholars of many elements, making the variations seems easy enough.
Now, how to tackle the mechanics, I think Huppermages should be heavily based on using Ether spells, having each weapon their unique spells of Ether elements, allowing Huppers to also have many combinations for Companions as wells.
Mechanic-wise, each elemental spell could also charge an Ether spell with it's corresponding element, giving the Hupper a special effect on the Ether spell when cast. Similar to how the "Disaster Rings" (Geyser, Lightning, Avalanche...) charge spells of their corresponding elements to trigger their effects.
And below, a concept art of a Waven Huppermage

But thats what would make Huppermage special. Using the four elements is something all classes do, so Huppers need something to stand out, and since there are no elemental resistances, Light doesn't have anything to stand out like in Wakfu, while Ether is already a fifth element that can lead the offensive on Huppers with elemental spells taking the backseat for support.
I even find the idea of having more ether spells conceptually interesting. The problem is the balancing of it. In the last two alphas we've seen most of the generation of ether gauge and other effects being moved to skills precisely because ether spells are so powerful in pvp. Also, ether spells don't evolve, which means their functionality has to scale with another factor (like AT) or simply be utility spells.
It is true that all classes can use all four elements in Waven. But in Dofus too. Still, what characterizes the Huppermages is not being able to use the four elements, but the interaction between these elements.
Apart from the rings that activate effects when spells of different elements are cast, no other Waven class has interaction between elements. Imagine Huppermages naturally synergizing with these rings by having effects on their passives and spells that trigger when playing spells of many different elements.
I agree, Ether Spells usualy escalate with your AT and thats something I think is still balanced for a class that uses those, although what I have in mind for Hupper is not necessarily giving this class a ton of offensive Ether spells, but rather this mechanic where they have Ether Spells that, similar to disaster rings, react to the element you used before, that could be the core gimmick of Huppers.
And I don't find overpowered a class that generates Ether charges easily considering how companions can be quite brittle and have low impact outside their actual elements. Even the strongest companions synergize with elements other than Ether (Harebourg, Amalia, Bakara...)
Also, please, Ankama focus more on PVE than PVP, I'm not saying we disregard it entirely, but everytime someone complains about a class's performance in PVP and its nerfed, it's 10x WORSE in PVE, the class gets essentialy ruined to use against monsters.
